The Blue Ox Patriot applies your towed vehicle’s brakes with the same intensity and timing as your motorhome, so you get smooth, predictable stops instead of jerky ones. Its built-in inertia sensor measures your RV’s actual braking and instantly matches that pressure at the pedal. You can fine-tune both force and sensitivity on the remote LCD display until the response feels just right. Once dialed in, the Patriot delivers steady performance on every trip—no need to reprogram it.
This lightweight 6-lb unit sets on the floor, clamps around the brake pedal, braces against the driver’s seat, and plugs into a 12-volt outlet—no splicing, no cutting, no permanent install. Adjustable feet let it sit level even on uneven floorboards, and the seat pad moves up or down to fit securely. When you’re done towing, lift it out by the handle and stash it away. It’s small and compact enough to move between vehicles with ease using an extra vehicle kit.
You can see exactly what’s happening in your towed vehicle with the wireless LCD display in your motorhome. It plugs into a 12-volt outlet, mounting on your dash with the included stand or hook-and-loop strip. The display shows braking activity in real time, lets you adjust settings, and includes a manual override to apply the brakes yourself if needed. You’ll also get alerts if the system loses communication, applies too much pressure, or if the towed vehicle disconnects.
If the towed vehicle ever separates from the motorhome, the included breakaway switch immediately triggers the brakes to bring it to a stop. A reserve air supply in the Patriot lets it activate even if the car’s battery is dead, and it can keep braking for up to 30 minutes after power loss. That kind of backup means you’re protected even in a worst-case scenario.
With support for hybrids and continuous-power-assist brakes, the Patriot handles today’s advanced braking systems with ease. Switching to Hybrid Mode is simple using the remote’s Force adjustment screen. Whether you’re towing across town or across the country, the Patriot’s dependable proportional control keeps every stop steady and safe.
Flat towing can be a much more convenient way to take your car RVing with you than using a trailer or a tow dolly. It'll save you storage space both at home and at the campsite, and it takes less time and hassle to hook up.
To flat tow your vehicle, there are 5 basic components you're going to need: a tow bar, a base plate kit, a safety cable set, tow bar wiring, and a flat tow braking system.

The custom-fit base plate installs on the frame of your toad so you can connect the car to your RV with a tow bar. Hook up safety cables between the vehicles to ensure that the toad does not separate from the motorhome if the tow bar becomes detached. Tow bar wiring syncs your vehicle's signal lights with your motorhome's tail lights, as required by law in most states. Finally, the flat tow braking system - also required in most states - activates the brakes in the toad when you hit the brakes in the RV, making for smoother, safer braking, and preventing wear on your motorhome.

It works great when you can get it to setup. I am using it in 2021 Jeep and it struggles to setup. I don't know if the front of the Jeep seats are too soft or if there is too much flex in the system arm that presses against the seat. On a trip a month ago, it started giving errors when descending a large hill. 2 weeks ago I struggled to get it working before a trip and on the return trip I gave up trying to set it. I just drove home with no brakes on the toad. My plan for the next trip (week after next) is to create a box for it to sit in that offers more support for the unit and hopefully allows it to work as designed. If not, I will be looking for something different.
The setup was so much simpler than I thought it was going to be. My Samurai requires that I stop every two hours to run the engine a few minutes. Even when I needed to detach it temporarily to do so it was simple to set back up again.
Used it on multiple trips behind my class c pulling a jeep. Do need to recharge the jeep battery each night after a day long pull. Over 10,000 miles lost signal 2 or 3 times. Im very happy with this product
We've used this system on our Jeep Cherokee with a Blue Ox base plate and tow bar for nearly 10K miles, and we're very happy with it. We did have a remote display/control failure at ~6 months, but it was quickly replaced under Blue Ox's generous warranty. etrailer's prices were competitive, if not the best, and their install videos and phone/email support are unmatched. We've no complaints and highly recommend this device as a portable brake solution for towed vehicles.
Very easy install and set up. Very light weight. Etrailer always provides excellent customer service and useful videos. I'm ready to tow the Jeep behind the Motorhome.
Last trip we did we had issues with it connecting with RF remote. We got a bigger rig, and my tow vehicle is further away from the drivers cab. Is range an issue?

Doesnt work well with Ford Edge ST. In order to tow the car I have to disconnect the car battery, and supply a different power source. Any suggestions?
I was super impressed with the online support in helping me pick all the items that I needed to purchase for flat-tow my Jeep behind my Ram. The box was busted open upon delivery of the Roadmaster Falcon hitch - but I think I got all/most of the parts.

Works great all electric no air compressor quick recovery
Relatively easy to install the break-away. Also had to install constant 12v outlet. Have not towed with it yet. But, seems to work as designed and am looking forward to using it.

Nice system. Easy install,Calibrated easily, but I have not "toad" with it yet. I did run a dedicated power outlet for it.

We used the brake with our F150 and it performed well in the Tennessee Smokeys. On a second trip had problems with system erroring out, did research and called Blu Ox, they gave me number to call. Customer support was excellent, listened to my issue and had me return the brake system for repair. They found a fault, repaired, calibrated and updated the firmware. Brake was returned to me in about a week, I put it in truck and it worked perfectly. Leaving on a long trip this week. Great product.
Arrived on time and in perfect condition. As expected from eTrailer online ordering!
I am still setting up my Jeep Wrangler JLU for flat towing and have not used the products yet but the quality seems good for all the items purchased.
So far so good. Received my brake system yesterday and it installed perfectly and appears to be working as advertised. The brake itself was lighter than I expected, making it easier to store, then reinstall every time you're starting a new trip. I have not towed with it yet, so the complete story hasn't happened yet. Time will tell.
This brake assist works perfect and is extremely easy to set up. I like being able to use it in any car I want to tow.

After a year my Blue Ox Patriot is working just like new. Really happy with how easy is to set up. Glad I did not go with the competitor that chops into the brake system of the vehicle.
Not as expected but will get me by. Maybe new brake pads will increase adjustment range but on max I can only say it may eventually stop. if it breaks away. I wouldn't want breaks locking, so it will do.
After the first two or three times it’s fast and easy to set up. I adjusted mine to do little to no braking in normal driving, and its maximum brake application if a breakaway occurs. For me the purchase was about peace of mind regarding the unlikely event of a breakaway.
Andy was a great help to get my flat tow started on my Ford Ranger. I will go to my local auto electric buddy for the lights installation. Thanks Andy for your help.

Super easy to install on travel days. We just drove 3100 miles through several mountain ranges with no complaints. I did have the my E trailer representative install a plug between the connection upfront and the inside of the Jeep so it would not use the jeep’s battery all day. Worked excellent.
What a great System! Works Great and this new model is smaller and lighter. stop messing around with your old model that has communation issues. The BRK2022 is excellent! Best price i found was right here at E-trailer. Thank You

Excellent! This is a well built and easy to operate Brake System for towing vehicles.
works great I like the remote monitoring system, so I know what's going on with the braking system at all times. The only reason I gave it 4 and not 5 stars is because even after trying all the different adapters on the brake pedal mounting, I still needed to tie wrap it to my pedal.
At first glance- unit is very light, couldn't believe in it at first.
I went through the set up and made adjustments, then more adjustments.
It seems to work well to this point. Getting the seat in the right place took a little patience, setting the force / gain a little at a time until I could actually feel the jeeps brakes helping with slowing both vehicles. (force is at 5 now) Light braking does not seem to activate the unit but with a moderate to forceful application of the towing vehicle brakes I get a good response of the Blue Ox unit. the monitor that came with the system in the towing unit is a good indicator of the unit being applied. I haven't had an issue where an emergency application of brakes was needed but I believe the unit was helpful with the short exit ramps I encountered on the interstate hwy I recently traveled. One excursion that I just took isn't enough of a test but this first 1600 mile trip the unit was a good help.
Perfect flat tow braking system for my Jeep Wrangler. I needed this on fairly short notice based on my install requirement schedule. I ordered this on late Friday afternoon and had it on my kitchen table Tuesday morn. Naomi was a great help, friendly, professional, and knowledgable. Thank you Naomi. The price was $300 less than any nearby dealer and they needed two weeks delivery. Once again Etrailer saved the day for me.
My old brake controller died while we were on a long trip. I ordered the Blue ox and had it sent to our next campground. It arrived in time to install it and be on our way. Worked beautifully on the 600 mile trip home. etrailer never disappoints when I need something quick and has always had what I need.

Hi Wesley, I reached out to Blue Ox to get to the bottom of this for you. Our contact there said that range shouldn’t be an issue as the RF controller has 350ft range in open air. Have you tried moving the RF controller closer to the driver side window to see if that would help the connection? Please let me know if this resolves the issue for you.
